About the President

Dr. Rasul Ma'roufi Azar serves as the President of the University of Maragheh. He was appointed to this position by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran in recognition of his dedication, expertise, and extensive experience in higher education administration and academic leadership.

Dr. Ma'roufi Azar holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Energy Conversion from the University of Tabriz, one of Iran's leading institutions in engineering and technology. He is an Associate Professor and a faculty member of the University of Maragheh, where he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic service.

Academic and Research Contributions

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Ma'roufi Azar has made significant contributions to the field of mechanical engineering and energy systems. His scholarly output includes  30 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers , as well as  one registered patent. He has also supervised and guided  more than 40 master's and doctoral theses, reflecting his deep commitment to nurturing young researchers and advancing graduate education.

Administrative Leadership

Dr. Ma'roufi Azar brings a wealth of administrative experience to his role as President. Prior to his current appointment, he served as:

- Dean of the Faculty of Engineering** at the University of Maragheh
- Director of the Maragheh Growth Center for Technology Units**
- Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering**

In recognition of his outstanding administrative performance, he was selected as the **Top Manager of the Province** in the year 2020.

Vision and Commitment

As President, Dr. Ma'roufi Azar is dedicated to advancing the University of Maragheh as a center of excellence in education, research, and community engagement. He envisions a university that serves as a driving force for regional development, scientific progress, and social transformation. Under his leadership, the university is actively pursuing the establishment of a Science and Technology Park, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, and enhancing its international academic partnerships.

A Hub of Knowledge and Innovation

The University of Maragheh, established in 1987, is the largest higher education institution in the south of East Azerbaijan Province. Situated on a 110-hectare campus in the historic city of Maragheh, the university comprises four faculties —  Agriculture, Basic Sciences, Engineering, and Humanities   as well as a Research Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics. With approximately  4,000 students  and  160 faculty members, the university is recognized among the top 20 comprehensive universities in Iran.
